Yes! I have a question!

Ask Mary Lou!

Here's your chance! Each month, Mary Lou answers your fashion, wardrobe, and accessorizing questions. If you have something that you need to know, ask away! If your question is chosen, you'll receive a complimentary Organization By Design Survival Kit. What have you got to lose?!

For March, 1999:

Q: How do I keep my knit separates and dresses from stretching?

A: Many knits these days contain Spandex, which helps them fit and drape especially well. Unfortunately, Spandex will also pull your clothes out of shape if you store them improperly.

Resist hanging knits (especially those with Spandex) because the weight of the garment sometimes causes it to stretch and the shape of the hanger can strain the shoulders. Instead, fold and store them loosely in a drawer or on a shelf. If your knits are already somewhat stretched out of shape, they may bounce back with proper storage.
