Q: Can I wear black shoes with light colored suits?
A: Yes, as long as you train your eye to do it well.
If a suit is made of silk or a man-made fabric that has a silk-like sheen to it, a black patent shoe is ideal because the fabric and the shine of the shoe coordinate well. Consider wearing accessories, such as a scarf or necklace, that have black and the color of your suit in them to further pull your look together.
Another strategy — change the buttons on the suit to match the shoes. Also, wear a "buff" hose to lighten the overall appearance of the outfit.
Be reminded that a comfortable pair of black patent shoes is a good investment. Not only can they go with many different colors and styles of suits in your closet, but they are appropriate year round and can take you to the office as well as to social events with style and confidence.
