Q: Is it appropriate to wear strappy black sandals with my holiday outfits? If it's okay, what kind of hosiery is the best option? Should I wear sheer black or nude, and do they make hosiery that is completely seamless in the toe?
A: It's fine to wear sandals in the winter for after five affairs. Nude hose, as opposed to sheer black, is the most fashion-forward choice. Although more expensive than drug store brands, Donna Karan is our choice if you desire a natural look sans obvious toe seams. Select the fashions you wear with sandals this time of the year wisely. For instance, a long skirt or dress or pant outfit will look better with sandals than a short skirt or dress. The less leg you show will take the emphasis off whether or not you are wearing hose and will give you a more sophisticated look all around. If the hem on your outfit is shorter, opt for a sling-back, closed-toe shoe with hose. Your look will be lighter and a little sexier than a more classic pump while giving you seasonally appropriate coverage. Please be aware that while sandals are certainly in style and can look great with holiday fashions, you may feel (and/or look!) over-exposed in them for some events with colleagues and clients. Always tap into your own common sense before selecting what to wear to any event.
