For May 2007:

Q: I enjoyed your presentation yesterday at our luncheon — thank you! I have a question for you about trench coats. Do you think it is necessary to have a black and tan trench coat, or do you prefer one over the other? Also, is it necessary to have both a short and long trench or would a mid-length suffice for both pants and skirts?

A: Nice to meet you and your colleagues as well. Great group of women. A black trench with a zip-out lining that ends at your knee is a great basic that will give you tons of mileage. Tan is nice but tends to be less dressy and does not hide wear and tear as much. After a client has purchased a great black trench, we often suggest adding a trench in a bright color — say apple green, bright orange (I have this color — looks smashing with all dark neutrals) or hot pink. In the spring, many women need a blast of color — a trench is one way to get it. Hope this helps.
