5 Ways to Relax Your Summer Style During a Pandemic

News flash: Summer is not canceled. It’s actually just heating up!

Yes, many weddings, vacations and other fun plans have been put on hold, but there are still plenty of long days, warm temps, people to safely see, restaurants to get back into the black, and porches to hang on that do require that you at least get partially dressed and presentable. Unless you want it to, your style doesn’t have to go on vacation this summer.

While you probably don’t need a whole lot of clothes to get through summer this year, a few fresh tees, shorts, dresses and sandals never hurt anyone. We hope a few of these ideas put a smile on your face (and some pep in your step!) – we all need a little of both right about now. Enjoy!

#1 Tee Off
A laid-back summer requires some laid-back tee-shirts that flatter your figure while updating what you already own. Some styles to consider:

  • Boyfriend (oversized, pairs well with skinny bottoms);
  • Swing (oversized body, more fitted sleeves – wear with everything);
  • Classic (fits closer to the body, looks best tucked into flowing skirts and wider bottoms);
  • Crop (boxy and cut shorter – pairs well with high waisted bottoms).

#2 Break Out the House Dresses
Muumuus, caftans, dusters – whatever you want to call them – this runaway summer trend mocks how we are all living this summer. Historically humble (picture what your grandmother may have worn to hang the laundry or talk across a fence to a neighbor), today’s house dresses have come full circle and give you a big dose of style both at home and when you do venture out.

#3 Shoes with Soul
If you haven’t given yourself a proper summer shoe overhaul in a while, this might be the summer to do it. People are tolerating less and less, including settling for uncomfortable shoes. Wedge and block heels can give you height when you need it. Sandals with supportive souls, straps and ample foot coverage allow you to move fast (and pivot!) while remaining stylish as we celebrate one of the most relaxed summer seasons since the summer of love!

#4 The Quaratini Bikini
If getting out of your normal routine has messed with your beach bod, one bathing suit style to consider is a high-waisted bikini that pulls you in and slims you down. Beautiful coverups, colorful beach jewelry, straw hats and bejeweled flip flops can jazz you up while calling attention away from areas you’d rather not celebrate at the moment. Local shops are great sources for all things easy and breezy and supporting small businesses right now is very much in style too.

#5 Updated White Jeans
Finally, for many it’s not really summer before you slip into white jeans. This season, buttons replace zippers as a fashion-forward way to fasten them. In addition, those with frayed bottoms, a more relaxed fit and even holes don’t look any worse for the wear – kind of like all of us!
