For Kathy Smith, clothing and fashion are an extension of who she is. Raised by a mom who was a professional model, Kathy had a bird’s eye view into styling at an early age as she accompanied her mom on photo shoots and watched as a styling team pulled together an eclectic array of clothing and accessories for her mom to bring to life. She recalls being stimulated by the colors, shapes and silhouettes of the selected fashions and speaks fondly of the impact this experience had on her career path.

After graduating from Boston College, she applied and was accepted into the Saks Fifth Avenue Retail Training Program, a highly coveted coup for any college grad looking to start a retail career. At SFA, Kathy often referred to her work as “play” as part of her responsibilities included styling windows and other visual displays and studying global trend reports. She was hooked!

Her retail career continued when she was hired by Talbots as a buyer. Over the course of her 15 year career with the company, Kathy moved into managing and then directing the catalog side of the business, including overseeing production of 47 catalogs annually. Notes Kathy, “I was fortunate to travel extensively while working for Talbots. I visited London, Paris, Milan and Florence at least twice a year on buying trips. I sharpened my eye for what constitutes quality and good design, and then translated this knowledge in a way that would benefit and inspire our customers.”

Before joining our team, Kathy was an Independent Style Consultant for the California-based company Carol Anderson By Invitation. She fell in love with the personal, one-on-one interaction of helping women look and feel their best, further honing her skills for understanding individual fit, fabric, color and lifestyle needs – all aspects of our Dressing Well philosophy.

Kathy resides in Wellesley, MA with her husband Tim and three children Brendan, Katie and Christian.
